CARD ARTWORK: DEATH
A sombre sounding name for a card, the 13th Major Arcana for the first collection had to be filled in before the deadline. The artwork approached Death as a rejuvenating collage experience, not the typical rendition of a grim-reaper styled portrayal of the card. Symbolism notes taken from the book are below:
"In a symbol of mourning, white lilies are scattered about Yancy's body as he sinks into the ocean where he passed, the water both drowning and cleansing in effect. While Raleigh "holds" the memory of his brother close (as shown by hand cusping Yancy's head in the "drift"), Yancy's face deteriorates into a skull, the bones we all return to, the elder brother taking his brother's heart and soul in grief."
